Crystal microdermabrasion has always been the traditional treatment of choice. Here a high speed flow of aluminum oxide microcrystals are blasted onto the surface of the skin by a special hand-held device. The exfoliation process occurs from these microcrystals. At the same time another part of the device is vacuuming dead skin cells, dirt and used crystals. There are two strengths that make this effective. The crystals' irregular shape makes them an effective abrader while its aluminum oxide component is the second hardest mineral after diamonds.

Diamond Microdermabrasion

In this procedure a disposable or reusable diamond tipped wand runs across the surface of the skin as the abrading agent.. The advantage for this method is it takes out the possibility of free flying crystals inadvertently hitting and damaging sensitive areas of the face. The tipped wand has a better rate of precision because it is made in different shapes and sizes. The disadvantage to both crystal and diamond microdermabrasion is they require at minimum 6 to 12 sessions in a medical clinic or a day spa. These are hour long sessions costing hundreds of dollars. Thankfully there is a cheaper and more time effective skin microdermabrasion cream.

At Home Microdermabrasion

Skin resurfacing products can now add to their list a microdermabrasion cream that can be used from home. It is easy to apply and it produces long lasting results, in particular if the cream is made of all natural ingredients. A microdermabrasion cream abrades the surface of the skin using tiny particles to leave a 'polished' look to your face after its application. After repeated use a discolored or scarred skin surface is gradually removed. The collagen and elastin replenishing themselves in addition to the enhanced surface skin cell turnover are its two most beneficial microdermabrasion results.
